Wild animals are coming to our cities due to mining and tree cutting, the water we drink is becoming unfit for human and animal consumption due to oil drilling and the garbage we dump in the ocean. When the lakes becomes too toxic to drink from what would you do without water? When all the trees become extinct what would you do without oxygen? when all the animals become extinct due to poaching and lost of habitat what would you do without food? Don’t bother answering “move to Mars”.

BTW, Phelim McAleer is an industry puppet funded by a front company for the Oil & Natural Gas industry and for only 18 months he has been consulting on a situation that has not affected his personally? This stuff isn’t in his backyard, so why should he care who it kills.

@MagicKirin, “Luddites?” Most of the opposition are in favor of Cutting Edge technology like Solar, Wind, Micro-Hydro and Geothermal. Coal, Oil and Natural Gas are OLD DIRTY technologies and not high tech at all. They are the antithesis. Anyone who wants the Technical Facts on Fracking watch “Gasland” in which the industry has not quantitative evidence to refute his findings. Industry documents have been leaked which show the industry itself is aware of the failure rate on the well casings!!

Listen to real exprerts not frauds like Bill McKibbon fracting is safe and you liddites need to go away

FACT CHECK on Duke Uni study: while they found no evidence of leaked chemicals used in the fracking, they did find isotopes of “thermogenic methane” (produced deep underground under intense pressure) as opposed to biogenic methane (metabolite of organic reactions elsewhere). The methane levels were up to 17 times higher within 1km of fracking sites. Their conclusions were that it does appear as though water had been contaminated in that area. Degree of certainty is high, but not absolute.

Errr not really. No green technology can come anywhere near close to economically competing with fossil fuels. If you’re cool paying 5x as much for your energy bill then go ahead, personally I’m fine.

If you hate fossil fuels so much then throw your computer in the bin, and the plastics in it are from oil. :)

Fracking must be banned! Coal mining must be banned! Science has proven that the world can meet increased energy demands with 100% green renewable energy RIGHT NOW. The only obstacle is ignorance and corporate greed.

“There’s a war on science and it’s coming from progressives”
This is funny and disgusting at the same time.

I mean ask Phelim if he would go live in a fracking zone.

Ask the two pro fracking people if they would go live in a fracking area for a few years. Let’s see if they are willing to put their own health in jeopardy to prove that it is safe. I bet they wouldn’t agree to it.

Any time there is big money to be made, those that stand to profit have always; will always line the pockets of regulators, scientists, pundits, etc.

McAlleer use of labeling people as “conservative” or “not progressive” haters of change, when they have legitimate fears and complaints, is the typical disingenuous response of the entire industry he represents. McAleer is a straw-man building a straw-man arguments. The war on science is what the fracking industry is doing.
